How to Add an XML Sitemap to WordPress
An XML sitemap is a file that lists every page on your site in a format search engines can read directly — think of it as handing Google a table of contents instead of making it discover your pages one link at a time.
What happens without one
Search engines find new pages primarily by following links — from your homepage, from other pages on your site, from external sites linking to you. That works, eventually. But it’s slow, and it depends entirely on your internal linking being thorough. A page buried three clicks deep with no other page linking to it can sit undiscovered for a long time.
An XML sitemap short-circuits that process. Instead of waiting to be found through links, every page on the list gets submitted directly.
What a sitemap actually contains
At minimum, a sitemap lists each page’s URL and when it was last modified, so a search engine can prioritize re-crawling pages that have actually changed rather than wasting effort on pages that haven’t. A well-built sitemap also correctly excludes pages that shouldn’t be indexed at all — password-protected content, internal search results, thin auto-generated pages — so the sitemap doesn’t accidentally point search engines toward low-value content.
How Sanctuary Tiger SEO handles this
The free plugin generates an XML sitemap automatically, with support for custom post types — meaning if you’re running anything beyond standard posts and pages (a portfolio, a resource library, a review type), those get included in the sitemap too, not just the default content types WordPress ships with.
There’s no configuration step required. Once the plugin is active, the sitemap exists and updates itself as you publish and edit content.

Submitting your sitemap to Google
Generating the sitemap is half the job — telling Google where it is closes the loop. In Google Search Console, under Sitemaps, you can submit your sitemap URL directly (typically yoursite.com/sitemap.xml or similar, depending on how your SEO plugin structures it). This isn’t strictly required — Google does discover sitemaps referenced in your robots.txt file automatically — but submitting it directly in Search Console gives you visibility into how many of your submitted pages actually got indexed, which is useful for catching problems early.

The takeaway
A sitemap alone won’t make an unfinished or thin page rank — it just makes sure search engines know a page exists in the first place. But for anything you actually want found, having no sitemap at all is like publishing a book with no table of contents and hoping someone stumbles onto chapter twelve.
Inside Sanctuary Tiger SEO
What’s Actually Inside Sanctuary Tiger SEO Pro (With Real Screenshots)
I get asked a lot what makes Sanctuary Tiger SEO different from the big-name plugins. So instead of just telling you, I put together an interactive walkthrough that shows every screen — Schema, AI Mentions, the Redirect Manager, all of it — pulled straight from the plugin running on this actual site.
→ Click through the interactive demo here
But since screenshots tell the story better than I can, here’s a real look at a few of the screens the demo walks through.
Tracking whether AI tools even know you exist
One of the newer additions is AI Mentions — logging whether ChatGPT, Claude, and other AI tools actually cite you when someone asks about your niche. Right now this site is sitting at a 100% mention rate across 31 tracked checks.
[SCREENSHOT: ai_mentions.jpeg]

A real content calendar, not a guess
The Content Calendar pulls in everything published, scheduled, or sitting in draft — no more digging through Posts to remember what’s live.
[SCREENSHOT: content_calendar.jpeg]
Bulk-editing SEO titles without opening 40 tabs
This is the screen I probably use the most day to day. Every post’s SEO title and meta description, editable inline, with live character counts so I know instantly if something’s running long.
[SCREENSHOT: bulk_seo_editor.jpeg]
Seeing exactly how your site links together
The Link Equity Map is the one that surprised me most when I first ran it — it found orphan pages I didn’t know existed, sitting with zero internal links pointing to them.
Structured data for more than just blog posts
Services, Events, Courses, Locations — each content type gets its own schema fields instead of being forced into a generic “post” template. Here’s what that looks like on a real Service page.
[SCREENSHOT: service_schema.jpeg]

Try it yourself
All of this — plus the JSON-LD Validator, Programmatic SEO Builder, Robots.txt Editor, and Redirect Manager — is in the full interactive demo. Click through it at your own pace:

- Log mentions from ChatGPT, Claude, Perplexity, and more
- Suggested queries to try, refreshed regularly

- Person, Article, and Service schema included free
- Book, Event, and Podcast schema unlock with Pro
- Save any schema combination as a reusable template
Active schema on this page

Event — ProBook — Pro
A real link graph, not a stat block
From an actual “Link Equity Map” — 184 pages, 242 internal links, rendered as a clickable node graph. Node size shows inbound link equity; red nodes are orphaned pages with nothing linking to them.
- Click any node to highlight its connections, drag to rearrange
- Orphan pages listed separately for quick cleanup
- Top linked pages ranked by inbound link count
A real template editor, {{variable}} syntax included
From an actual “Programmatic SEO Builder” — a “City Pages” template using {{city}}/{{state}} variables across the title, slug, meta description, and content, generating pages as drafts for review before anything publishes.
- {{variable}} syntax works across title, slug, meta, and content fields
- Save multiple templates for different page types
- Generated pages default to Draft — nothing auto-publishes
Validates your live site, not a sample snippet
From a real scan of rachel-m-harrison.com — fetches any URL, extracts its JSON-LD, and checks every node locally against schema.org, no external API calls.
- Node-by-node breakdown: Organization, Person, Service, FAQPage, and more
- Flags recommended-but-missing fields (like areaServed or offers) as warnings, not hard errors
- Zero external API dependency — validation runs entirely on your server
A real editorial calendar, not a mockup
From an actual “Content Calendar” screen for August 2026 — publish counts at a glance, plus every post plotted on the day it went live or is scheduled.
- Published, Scheduled, Drafts, Pending, and Stale (12mo+) counts up top
- Month or list view, filterable by post type
- Click any day to jump straight into that post’s editor
Tracks hundreds of keywords, not a top-10 sample
The real Keyword Tracker on this site runs a long table of tracked terms — far more than the 3-row preview most SEO plugins ship with. Position, keyword, and page are tracked per row.
- Position tracking per keyword, updated on a schedule
- Grouped by page so you see what’s ranking where
- Scales to hundreds of tracked terms without slowing down
| Keyword | Position | Page |
|---|---|---|
| trauma-informed coaching | #4 | /services |
| somatic coach near me | #9 | /services/somatic-coaching |
| nervous system regulation coach | #2 | /about |

- Click-to-edit cells, saves automatically on click-away
- Live character counts (≤60 for titles, 120–160 for descriptions)
- Filter by type, status, or search by title across the whole site

Duplicate Content in WordPress
What a Canonical URL Actually Fixes
“Duplicate content” sounds like something that only happens if you copy-paste an article twice. In practice, most WordPress duplicate content problems aren’t anyone copying anything — they’re the same single page being reachable through more than one URL, which search engines treat as a signal problem even though a human visitor would never notice.
How the same page ends up with multiple URLs
A handful of common, entirely unintentional causes:
- Trailing slashes —
yoursite.com/pageandyoursite.com/page/can both resolve to the same content, technically counting as two different URLs - URL parameters — tracking parameters, session IDs, or filter/sort parameters on an archive page (
?sort=price) can generate dozens of URL variations of what is functionally the same page - Tag and category archives — the same post often appears on multiple archive pages (its category page, several tag pages), and in some site structures those archive pages can overlap heavily with each other
- HTTP vs. HTTPS, or www vs. non-www — if both versions of your domain resolve without a forced redirect to one canonical version, that’s effectively your entire site duplicated
Why this actually matters for rankings
Search engines try to identify the single best URL to rank for a given piece of content. When the same content is reachable through several URLs with no signal about which one is “the real one,” ranking signals — links, engagement, relevance — can get split across those variations instead of consolidating behind one strong page. A page that would rank well as one unified URL can end up under-performing simply because its authority is fragmented across three or four technically-different addresses.
What a canonical tag actually does
A canonical tag is a small piece of code in a page’s <head> that explicitly tells search engines: “regardless of how you arrived here, this is the authoritative URL for this content.” It doesn’t redirect visitors anywhere — the page still loads normally at whatever URL they used — it’s purely a signal to search engines about which version should get credit.
How Sanctuary Tiger SEO handles this
The free plugin outputs a canonical URL automatically on every page and post type, with no configuration needed. If a specific page genuinely needs a custom canonical override — pointing to a different page entirely, which comes up occasionally with syndicated content or near-duplicate landing pages — that’s editable per-page in the SEO metabox.
The takeaway
Duplicate content from URL variations is one of the more invisible technical SEO problems, precisely because nothing looks broken from the visitor’s side — every version of the URL loads the same page just fine. It’s only the search engine’s side of the equation where the splitting happens, which is exactly why it’s easy to overlook and worth fixing by default rather than waiting to notice a problem.
How to Run a Sitewide SEO Audit in WordPress
(Without Checking Every Page by Hand)
Most WordPress SEO plugins are built around a per-page workflow: you open a post, look at its SEO panel, fix what needs fixing, move on. That works fine for a handful of pages. It breaks down completely once a site has grown past fifty or a hundred pages and you actually need to know, at a glance, which ones need attention.
The problem with page-by-page checking at scale
Opening each post individually to check whether it has a title, a meta description, and reasonable content length isn’t really an audit — it’s a very slow manual inventory. Nobody actually does this consistently once a site gets large enough, which means the pages that would benefit most from a quick fix are exactly the ones nobody ever gets around to checking.
What a real sitewide audit needs to show you
A useful audit isn’t just a pass/fail checklist — it needs to let you prioritize. At minimum, that means seeing, across every published page at once:
- Whether an SEO title and meta description are actually set
- Whether the page has a canonical override or noindex flag that might be unintentional
- Word count, so genuinely thin pages are easy to spot
- Images missing alt text
- When the page was last modified, since a page untouched for years is a different kind of problem than one still being actively edited

How Sanctuary Tiger Pro handles this
The Audit Export feature generates exactly this: a sitewide report covering every published post and page’s SEO status, with summary stats up top (how many pages are thin, how many are missing titles, how many images are missing alt text) and a one-click CSV download of the full detail.
The CSV format matters here more than it might seem — it’s the difference between a report you can only look at and a report you can actually work with. Sort it by word count to find your thinnest pages. Filter to pages missing a title. Hand it to a copywriter with a clear list of exactly which twelve pages need attention this month, instead of “go check everything.”
Who this is actually for
A ten-page brochure site doesn’t need this — you can genuinely eyeball ten pages. This becomes valuable once a site has grown past the point where “just check them all” is a realistic plan: content-heavy blogs, multi-practitioner sites, anything that’s been publishing for a few years and has accumulated pages nobody’s revisited since.
The takeaway
An SEO audit that only exists as something you can look at, one page at a time, in the WordPress admin, isn’t really a tool for prioritizing work — it’s just a longer way of doing what you were already doing. Exporting the whole picture at once is what actually makes triage possible.
Sanctuary Tiger SEO vs. Yoast vs. RankMath: An Honest Comparison
Sanctuary Tiger SEO vs. Yoast vs. RankMath: An Honest Comparison
Yoast and RankMath are the two most widely used WordPress SEO plugins, and both are genuinely capable tools — this isn’t a takedown of either one. But “most popular” isn’t the same as “best fit for your site,” and there are real, specific differences worth knowing before you pick one.
Where Yoast and RankMath each stand out
Yoast’s strength has long been content analysis — a traffic-light scoring system that checks keyword placement, meta description length, heading distribution, paragraph length, transition words, passive voice, and reading ease, plus word form recognition that catches keyword variations rather than requiring an exact match.
RankMath’s free tier is unusually generous — redirect management, 404 monitoring, Google Search Console integration, and around 18 schema types are all included free, along with tracking up to five focus keywords per page with live scoring for each.
Both are solid, well-maintained plugins with large user bases and active support. If you’re already comfortable in one, that’s a reasonable argument for staying put.
Where Sanctuary Tiger SEO is doing something different
Real-time readability analysis is free, not a premium upsell — reading ease, sentence length, passive voice, transition word usage, paragraph length, subheading distribution, and focus keyword placement, scored live in the editor with no license required, including word-form matching so a focus keyword like “coach” also credits “coaches” or “coaching” in your content, not just an exact literal match.
Automatic alt text is built in. Neither Yoast’s nor RankMath’s free tier fills in alt text automatically — Sanctuary Tiger’s free plugin does, using a filename-based fallback, with a bulk action to backfill your existing media library. (Pro adds AI-generated alt text using Claude’s vision capabilities, which describes what’s actually in the photo rather than cleaning up a filename.)
GEO — generative engine optimization — is a genuine focus, not an afterthought. As of when this was written, neither Yoast’s nor RankMath’s AI features were meaningfully about getting content cited by AI answer engines like ChatGPT and Perplexity — their AI tools are mostly about using AI to help write content. Sanctuary Tiger Pro’s GEO Schema, AI Citation Optimizer, and Mention Tracking are built specifically around visibility in AI-driven search, which is a fast-growing and largely uncontested space among mainstream WordPress SEO plugins right now.
The free plugin has no artificial limits. Everything described above in the free tier — schema, sitemaps, redirects, broken link scanning, readability analysis, alt text — works immediately with no account, no API key, and no feature locked pending upgrade.
What Sanctuary Tiger doesn’t have (yet)
In the interest of an honest comparison: Sanctuary Tiger is a newer plugin than either Yoast or RankMath, with a smaller installed base and less of a public track record. It also doesn’t yet match RankMath’s free-tier schema library, which covers roughly 18 schema types against Sanctuary Tiger’s 7 (with more available in Pro, but not matching RankMath’s count at the free tier specifically). If you need a plugin with over a decade of edge cases already handled and a very large support community, that history counts for something.
How to actually decide
- Want the deepest free schema library and a generous free redirect/404 toolkit? RankMath’s free tier is hard to beat there.
- Want mature, battle-tested content analysis with keyword-variation matching? Yoast has been refining that longer than anyone.
- Want free readability scoring and automatic alt text without paying for them, plus a plugin actively built around AI search visibility rather than just traditional Google rankings? That’s the gap Sanctuary Tiger SEO is built to fill.
None of these are wrong choices. They’re different tools optimized for different priorities — worth trying the one that matches what you’re actually trying to solve, rather than defaulting to whichever plugin has the most installs.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can I run Sanctuary Tiger SEO alongside Yoast or RankMath? It auto-detects either and defers title/meta output to avoid duplicate tags, but running two full SEO plugins at once generally isn’t recommended — pick one as your primary.
Which plugin has the most schema types for free? RankMath’s free tier is the most generous on this specific point, with around 18 schema types included at no cost.
Which plugin is best for AI answer engine visibility? This is where Sanctuary Tiger Pro is currently differentiated — GEO-focused tooling aimed at ChatGPT and Perplexity citation isn’t a meaningful focus area for either Yoast or RankMath as of when this was written.
Why I Built My Own WordPress SEO Plugin (And Why It Might Be Exactly What You Need)
Sanctuary Tiger SEO · WordPress Plugin
If you’ve ever opened Yoast SEO, stared at it for ten minutes, and quietly closed the tab — this post is for you.
I’ve spent years working with coaches, solopreneurs, and small business owners. And one of the most consistent things I’ve watched happen is this: someone builds a beautiful WordPress site, pours everything into it, and then gets completely stuck when it comes to SEO.
Not because they aren’t capable. Not because they don’t care. But because every tool available was built for someone else.
Yoast was built for bloggers and developers. Rank Math was built for agencies. Neither of them was built for the coach who just wants her site to show up when someone searches for what she does.
So I built one that was.
Introducing Sanctuary Tiger SEO
Sanctuary Tiger SEO is a WordPress SEO plugin built specifically for coaches, solopreneurs, healers, and small business owners who need professional-grade SEO without needing a developer to make it work.
It runs directly inside your WordPress dashboard. It audits your entire site. It tells you exactly what to fix — in plain English, not cryptic scores or technical jargon.
And it does something no other plugin does: it helps AI systems like ChatGPT, Perplexity, and Google AI understand who you are and what you do, so when someone asks those tools about your niche, your name comes up.

Who This Is For
Sanctuary Tiger SEO was built for you if:
- ◆You run your own WordPress site and you’re not a developer
- ◆You’ve tried other SEO plugins and felt overwhelmed or confused
- ◆Your site is beautiful but nobody can find it on Google
- ◆You’ve heard about AI search and want to show up in ChatGPT and Perplexity too
- ◆You don’t have the budget for an agency retainer but you’re serious about being found
It was built for coaches, solopreneurs, consultants, authors, speakers, therapists, healers, and anyone who runs a service-based business on WordPress.
Why It’s Different From Yoast or Rank Math
Yoast and Rank Math are good tools. They’re just not built for you.
They were designed for technical users — developers, digital marketers, SEO professionals. They assume you know what a canonical URL is. They assume you understand the difference between organization and person schema. They present you with dozens of settings and leave you to figure out what matters.
Sanctuary Tiger SEO assumes none of that. Every feature surfaces a plain-English action item. Every audit result comes with an explanation. The interface was designed to be navigated by someone running their business, not managing a marketing team.
And neither Yoast nor Rank Math has an AI Mentions module. Neither of them is thinking about what happens when someone asks ChatGPT “who is the best trauma-informed coach for women?” and whether your name comes up. Sanctuary Tiger SEO is.

A Note From Me
I built this because I was tired of watching talented, capable women stay invisible online — not because their work wasn’t good, but because the tools available to them weren’t made for them.
Sanctuary Tiger SEO is made for you. I hope it helps your work get found.
